FAQ

What does Bellwether mean?

bell·weth·er
/ˈbelˌweT͟Hər/
noun
one that leads or indicates trends;
a trendsetter

Derived from the Middle English term bellewether, it refers to the old practice of placing a bell around the neck of a ram (a wether) who led a flock of sheep. The ringing bell would inform a shepherd of the flocks’ movement, even when out of sight. In the present day, bellwether is a common sociological term applied in an active sense to an individual or group who tends to create, influence, or set trends.

Are you physically accessible?

Unfortunately, we are not. We are located up one flight of stairs on the second floor of a century-old building with additional steps down into the shop space itself. We are working hard to expand our online web store to include as many of our offerings as possible for clients + customers who can’t visit us in person.

Where can I park?

The shop has no designated parking spaces. There are metered parking spots along Queen St. outside of the shop building and along other downtown streets, as well as a paid parking lot at the end of York St., behind City Hall. Parking is free downtown on weekends and after 5 pm on weekdays.

Where do you source your inventory?

The majority of our stock is sourced through our consignment service - essentially we curate collections straight from our client’s closets! We also source select items directly, and partner with local + independent artists + makers to invest in handmade art, accessories + wares through small-batch wholesale. We strive to ‘support local’ by offering an extensive + sustainable selection FROM our community FOR our community!

Are your dressing rooms open?

Yes! We currently have one dressing room open. We ask that you limit try-ons to 3 items at a time, especially if the shop is busy. If something doesn't work, we ask that you leave items hanging on the rack in the dressing room so we can steam and sanitize garments before they go back on the racks.

Do you ship?

We currently only offer in-store pick-up + local delivery options:
$5.00 local delivery or FREE delivery on orders $50 or more (before tax) within Fredericton.
We are working towards offering shipping options - please stay tuned!

What is consignment?

Consignment is a service in which an individual (the consignor) leaves goods in the possession of an authorized third party (the consignee) to sell. The consignor then receives a percentage of the revenue of the sale. Essentially, Bellwether (the consignee) will sell select items you no longer have use for, and you will receive a portion of the final selling price in the form of cash or shop credit!

Are you currently accepting consignment items and/or new consignors?

Yes! We are currently accepting select seasonal consignment items from existing + prospective consignors on a case-by-case basis.

We ask all current + prospective consignors to become familiar with our consignment terms + conditions, fill out our electronic consignment form, and to check the website regularly to stay up to date with our latest consignment info.

What is your return policy?

All sales of vintage, preowned + other clothing items are *final sale.*

If there is an issue with flawed or damaged accessories, artwork or other wares, we can accommodate exchanges or reimbursement in the form of shop credit on a case by case basis.
